Mdou Moctar

Niger Niger

Originally hailing from Abalak in Niger, Mdou Moctar is one of the most celebrated Tuareg guitarists around. With his early albums Anar and Afelan earning first local then international recognition, Moctar has since performed his hypnotic desert songs and fiery electronic guitar solos all over the world, even starring in the first ever Tuareg-language feature film, a Saharan tribute to Prince’s Purple Rain called Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai (‘Rain the Color of Blue with A Little Red In It’).

Now Mdou Moctar has returned with a new album, Sousoume Tamachek, a dreamy, intimate record exploring “themes of religion, spirituality and matters of the heart”. Released via the excellent label Sahel Sounds, it’s available now via Bandcamp. Give the title track below a listen…
