Premiere: Jan Amit – Mermaid

Russia Russia

Having previously released on Moscow boutique imprint SEALT and London’s Black Hymn Records, 21-year-old Russian producer Jan Amit is now preparing to release his third album. A perfectly honed and intensely personal record, Jan Amit has given it the name Finding Home – and it’s hard to imagine a better home for his deep, expansive creations than Pixelord’s envelope-pushing label Hyperboloid, which releases it on September 29th.

Today we bring you the latest track to be revealed from Finding Home, with an exclusive first listen to the epic, undulating ‘Mermaid’. “For me, ‘Mermaid’ has been perceived as one of the most emotively complicated works in the album”, Jan Amit explains. “Oddly enough, I’ve been trying to start it since I got back from my trip to [the] Far East in 2015, yet I only got to its direct production a year later or even more. This was a really significant experience amongst the whole of my wanderings that I [have] described in Finding Home, comprising a fantastically wide range of feelings which I faced, having found myself that far from home.”

Jan Amit describes his creative ambition as awakening and evoking deep emotions by transmitting “things that are utterly difficult to be described in our day to day life all broken up by the many language barriers around the world”. As ‘Mermaid’ indicates, it’s a challenge he has confidently risen to. Listen above, and buy it via Bandcamp (where you can also pick up an exclusive remix courtesy of Raumskaya).
