British bass maestro Kevin ‘The Bug’ Martin has been crushing soundsystems across the world for nigh on two decades now, and is showing no sign of stopping. Now based in Berlin, Martin is preparing to drop a new AA-side single on Ninja Tune, and unsurprisingly it’s another cracker.
From last year’s collaboration with doom metal legend Dylan Carlson to 2014’s extraordinary Angels & Devils album, which featured everyone from Death Grips to Grouper’s Liz Harris, The Bug has made music with an impressive range of artists. However, his best work has frequently featured grime veteran Flowdan, and the two team up again on the first track from the new record, ‘Bad’.
The track finds Flowdan throwing down singjay-style vocals detailing his East London upbringing, while The Bug blasts together a brutal beat using nothing but sounds squeezed out of an old Soviet drum machine. As you might imagine, the result is both murky and magnificent. Per-order it here before the November 17th release.
