Competition: Win Lucia Cadotsch’s ‘Speak Low Renditions’

Switzerland Switzerland

Zurich-born jazz sensation Lucia Cadotsch is an artist who’s concerned with musical conversations. Sometimes, as on her celebrated Speak Low album, that conversation is with legends of the past, such as the late, great Billie Holiday. On the expansive follow-up, Speak Low Renditions, it’s with the cream of the European jazz scene, whom she invited to reimagine tracks from the album without any restrictions on style or approach.

The result places some of the last century’s most celebrated songs firmly into the future. With a cast of collaborators that includes musicians who’ve worked with the likes of Squarepusher, Matthew Herbert and Jameszoo, Speak Low Renditions inverts the original interpretations via a blinding musical spectrum. With Lucia Cadotsch, recently honoured as the ‘best national vocalist of the year’ at Germany’s prestigious ECHO Jazz Awards, providing the gossamer thread that links it all together, the album is a triumph that shows what can be achieved when reverent talent meets artistic freedom.

“It’s overwhelming to have all these wonderful musicians who have been inspiring me on my path for years and have become part of the musician I am today united on tape”, Lucia Cadotsch tells us. “Now I’m really looking forward to the live show at the Berghain Kantine (26.5) where all 12 musicians will share a stage together – it’s gonna be a celebration for diverse and progressive music. This is what 2017 needs the most.”

To celebrate the launch of Speak Low Renditions, and the forthcoming launch party at Berlin’s legendary Berghain, we’ve got a copy of the album on limited edition cassette to give away to one lucky MusicMap reader. Simply send an email marked SPEAK LOW to, and we’ll announce the winner on the eve of the May 26th show. Best of luck!

Both Speak Low and Speak Low Renditions are available now from the Lucia Cadotsch Bandcamp page.
